The Deer Syndrome
Business, Personal Development
I live on the edge of a national park and have wild deer wandering around along with other native animals and lots of birds.
It’s great to stand outside, suck in some pollution free air and observe nature.
Sometimes, I will be doing just that and a deer will emerge through the bushes and instantly stop in its tracks when it sees me... like the other day.
Now, as long as you do not move an eyelash the deer will not move while it figures out what you are and what its next step is.
But move just an inch and the deer will be gone.
When that happened the other day I thought how much like life and business that is.
So many people get caught up in Analysis Paralysis Syndrome and just remain in the one spot like the deer for ages... which leads easily into the old joke about the guy who said “some people say I’m indecisive but I’m not so sure”.
And then there’s procrastination... waiting for someone else to make the first move... again, just like the deer.
But the truth is that “Action Dispels Fear” and often when you take that first step it rolls into the next step and you can look back and wonder why you stood still for so long. There’s no question that once that deer decides it’s time to move, it really moves.
So how do you run your business?
Do you tread cautiously or constantly take action, test and innovate?
